I recently moved to South London to live by the lovely Wandsworth Common with its abundance of green space (becoming a true Brit now) and puppies- everywhere. On my first weekend I decided to get out and explore the area, of which I really knew nothing about prior to moving to the illusive ‘south of the river’ boroughs.
I was pleasantly surprised when I rounded the corner and found this adorable and kitchy cafe; Flotsam & Jetsam. Named after the the eels in A Little Mermaid (or at least in my head it is) and meaning ‘useless or discarded objects’ (now doesn’t that make you a little sad for the eels? really gives another layer to the deeply complex characters in The Little Mermaid..). Even though the name is adorable, I feel that it is definitely selling itself short, as it has quickly become my favourite brunch spot in the area.
Any cafe that is reasonably priced, has a focus on good coffee and offers an incredible avocado smash is fine by me.
The decor is as charming as their tendency to to offer treats to local dogs frequenting the cafe with their owners (did I mention I love the abundance of dogs in Wandsworth!?).
Having already had three of their all-day breakfast options, and probably planning to wander down there after another Friday night in London Soho, I think it’s safe to say I have found my new ‘local’.
Their 24-Carrot – carrot, apple & ginger fresh juice is a definite hang over cure (this, my housemate can confirm).
If you’re in the area, or looking for a cute and tasty new brunch spot in South London, Flotsam & Jetsam Cafe is definitely worth a look in. Wander the common and pop in to ogle the puppies (and if you’re lucky you might even get a tail whack from from the huge-but-friendly giant mastiff that paid us a visit over the weekend).
