Some days you research every little detail. You spend weeks on TripAdvisor, Pinterest, Timeout, whatever media tool you can to find the best places to go in the city you are visiting. Some days these recommendations work out, some days they don’t. And some days you just get lucky (or you ask a local who actually knows their stuff!).
I was staying in The Hat Hostel in Madrid and had met a lovely British girl who was staying in Madrid for the rest of the week. We decided on my last night that we were going to find a place for a nice drink, maybe get some food and head back to the hostel for an early night as we had been traipsing the city the whole day and were in the need to ‘grab some kip’ as the British would say.
I had got it in my head that there HAD to be a rooftop bar somewhere in Madrid (other than the one that was above our hostel that we had already frequented many a time…). After google failed us, we decided to ask one of the girls on the reception at the hostel. Through broken English, she told us that there was one rooftop bar that in her words ‘was quite nice’.
Quite nice it was…
Needless to say, we had a few wines.
We also happened to get there just as the sun was setting. Perfectly ending my time in Madrid as I looked over the whole city, feeling extremely lucky.
As we arrived around 6.30pm on a Tuesday, the bar was not busy, the views were 360, the lounges were free and the sunset was uninterrupted! I wanted to stay for hours.
